Ready to shake off a long, gloomy winter with some laughs?
Even if it seems the temperatures will never rise, you can absolutely count on having a good time at this year’s LaughFest, a 10-day comedy extravaganza kicking off this Thursday.
Be there for the family-friendly Community Kickoff, presented by Feyen Zylstra, and you can help LaughFest organizers break the Guinness world record for most people wearing paper crowns. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. at Fountain Street Church with the official attempt to break the existing world record taking place at 6:45 p.m. Free entertainment is planned throughout the event.
The first 1,500 participants will receive an exclusive commemorative LaughFest button. A small quantity of official, limited-edition world record event LaughFest t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
After the kickoff, a free opening night preview show will be held at the Pyramid Scheme at 10 p.m. The show includes a sneak peek of local, regional, and national comedians who will be featured throughout LaughFest. A suggested High Five donation to Gilda’s Club will be collected at the door. Tickets are also still available to attend the Clean Comedy Showcase at The B.O.B. at 7 p.m.
LaughFest started in 2011 as a way to raise funds for Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. In previous years, Guinness world records have been set for largest rubber chicken toss, most people wearing animal noses, and most people wearing sunglasses in the dark. Last year, the event attracted people from 35 states, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Each year of LaughFest has attracted more than 50,000 people to West Michigan.
Headliners at this year’s festival include George Lopez, Wanda Sykes, and Patton Oswalt. There are a ton of family-friendly and free events to be found during LaughFest, including the Seriously Funny Family Adventure Challenge, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Teams of two to four will race across Grand Rapids engaging in fun and exciting timed challenges.
Do you have tickets to any of the LaughFest headliner shows? Which event are you most looking forward to? Let us know your funniest LaughFest moments in the comments.
