When it comes to Easter, traditional treats can lead to the over-consumption of more than twice the daily recommended sugar intake in one sitting. The recommendation for school-aged children is to limit consumption of added sugar to 4 teaspoons per day.
To keep things healthy and fun this Easter, take the opportunity to fill his or her basket with items based on interests and personality, or try making a new healthy recipe for your little ones.
Here are a few of my suggestions:
- Building Creative Easter Baskets for Kids: The creative child, the thinker, the energetic child -these are just a few of the themes you can build on. Here’s how to make them.
- Homemade“Bunny Poop”: This fun, non-traditional spring treat is guaranteed to make the family smile while sneaking in some good nutrition. Try our recipes for peanut butter chocolate hazelnut bunny poop or chocolate peanut butter bunny poop.
- Bell Pepper Chicks with Veggies & Greek Yogurt Ranch Dip: This visual, fun recipe is something the kids can help pull together for your next family gathering. This homemade dip mimics the texture and zesty flavor of store-bought options without the added fat and calories. Get the recipe here.
- A Healthier Egg Hunt: Surprise Easter Egg Snacks: Offering bite-sized healthy snacks in Easter eggs is a great way to sneak in protein, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Doing so is also a fun way to encourage and introduce kids to try new foods. Get the recipe here.
