Zoo Goes Boo Gives West Michigan Families a Fun Way to Celebrate Halloween

Looking for a fun and not-spooky way to celebrate Halloween in West Michigan with your kids?
John Ball Zoo has you covered with Zoo Goes Boo! Dress up and enjoy trick-or-treating on the kooky (not spooky) Trick-or-Treat trail. Every day of Zoo Goes Boo is different, but organizers promise every day will be packed with entertainers, decorations, special animal activities, games, and prizes.
The event takes place over six days October 17-19, and October 24-26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $7 per person or $3 for members. Kids younger than two are free. Coupons for $1 off regular admission can be picked up at participating Grand Rapids Meijer stores.
Trick-or-treat bags are being provided by Blue Care Network (BCN). Jessica Iloff, Community Outreach Project Manager for BCN said Zoo Goes Boo is the perfect family-friendly way to enjoy the season.
“It gets families outside and active with each other, something Blue Care Network and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are actively working to promote through our #MIKidsCan movement,” she said. “Walking through the zoo to see the animals and collecting treats on the Trick-or-Treat trail is a great way to get kids moving and makes for a fun day for the whole family.”
Despite cooler weather, many of the animals are still on display, including the lions, tigers, and bears. The zoo’s Funicular also remains open. However, some seasonal experiences and exhibits have closed down. For example, the wallabies and camels have returned to their winter home in a warmer climate.
