Spring is here. You can FINALLY get out and enjoy the weather. But what do you do when the rain washes out your plans? Here are some ideas to have some fun, for free, and stay dry.
Belle Isle Aquarium: Head to Detroit’s Belle Isle aquarium, the whole family will enjoy checking out the colorful fish. The aquarium recently re-opened after being closed since 2005. It’s open on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. with free admission.
Library: Visit your local library. Most city libraries are open on weekends, with no cost to sign up or check out books. My local library also has various special events on the weekends like story time, movies, and book fairs.
Movies: Check your area movie theaters, many theaters have early free shows in the mornings for families. Your only cost will be for the popcorn.
Museums: Many museums have free admission, like the Detroit Historical Museum. For those that don’t check out the cool Detroit Museum Adventure Pass, the program allows residents to check out a pass from their library that gets them into many participating cultural attractions for free
For just some real, honest family fun, just head outside and embrace the rain. Take in the spring smells and watch your kids giggle and laugh as they splash and sing in the rain. It will be a memory that will last forever.
What are some great free things you do with your family to take shelter from the rain?
