Midland Kids Prepare for Upcoming Tri Kids Try Triathlon
| 2 min read
Even though he’s only eight years old, Corbin Frazier has grown up knowing the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
After all, he’s had plenty of role models to look up to when it comes to keeping active. His father runs 100-mile, 50-mile and 50K events, and his mother stays active by running track and competing in events as well.
That’s why, leading into the Tri-City Kids’ Triathlon later this month, Corbin is feeling pretty confident.

“I’ve learned how to become a better swimmer and to have fun,” said Corbin. “Kids can stay healthy, too.”
In addition to doing triathlons, Corbin also plays soccer and baseball. He likes to eat healthy foods like apples, bananas, cantaloupe, watermelon and strawberries.
The 9th annual Tri Kids Try event presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will take place July 15 at Dow High School in Midland. It will be Corbin’s third time participating in the event.
This mid-summer family tradition was created to foster a healthy lifestyle and sense of accomplishment for kids, ages 6-15. Each triathlete will swim, bike and run to complete the competition. Kids who participate gain experience in an enjoyable, low-key athletic event that emphasizes health, self-esteem, self-confidence and fun, in a safe, family-friendly environment.
Corbin’s mother, Heather Frazier, encourages other local families to give the event a try.
“It’s not about winning or losing, just getting out there,” said Heather Frazier. “The kids like to have fun and that’s what it’s about.”
Outside of the Tri Kids Try event, the Fraziers visit the Greater Midland Community Center as often as possible, especially in the winter months when getting active outdoors can be challenging.
“We try our best to eat healthy and exercise,” said Heather Frazier. “In the summer the majority of our fresh produce comes from our local farmers market.”
