How To: Dress your kids for the winter
| 2 min read
Michigan winters are notorious for being cold and unpredictable, so it’s important to invest in some well-insulated pieces that’ll last through the season.
If your children squirm at the thought of wearing multiple layers before a day of snowy activity, make sure to stock up on clothing made from fabrics like fleece and thermal. Thermal shirts are comfortable and versatile, making them an easy addition to any wardrobe.
As for outwear, jackets that are made with down feathers, versus synthetic insulation or hard shell windbreakers, are lightweight and efficient in keeping things cozy and warm. If you opt for down, look for a fill of at least 500. Synthetic options are available with a comparable amount of insulation. Look for longer or adjustable styles that your child won’t outgrow too quickly, as well as options with hoods and pockets so that you can easily store additional winter gear like mittens and earmuffs.
To complete the look and trap in the body heat, be sure to remember gloves and hats. Fashionable gloves and mittens are easy to come by, and are available in a variety of styles – fingerless, down, fleece, etc. Equally as important in the category of cold-weather accessories are hats. Look for something fun and practical that covers the ears and other easily wind-stricken areas.
