Whether you are searching in urban or rural areas, most likely there is a cache to be found somewhere.

This sport is great for anyone craving a little adventure. Caches can be easy or difficult to find, making the activity exciting for any age. Geocaching is especially great for senior citizens, encouraging them to stay active, get outside and appreciate nature. It serves as a positive mental challenge incorporating a healthy amount of walking as you search for a cache.
Best places to geocache in Michigan
If you’re heading out of town for a weekend up north, in the woods or by the water, check to see if your vacation is near one of these Michigan trails (without giving you any spoilers)! Here are a few other cities to explore.
- Marquette: This Upper Peninsula city is full of unique hiking spots featuring waterfalls along Dead River and treks around Presque Isle.
- Empire: This city is not just for the dunes. Experience geocaching adventures in “the most beautiful place on earth.” In this city, hunting for a cache can lead you to spectacular views along Lake Michigan. Check out the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail.
- Muskegon: Experience all day caching fun while bike riding for miles along the Muskegon Lakeshore and Musketawa Trails.
- South Haven: Kal-Haven Trail Sesquicentennial State Park provides great opportunities for geocaching.
- Mackinac Island: On the island for vacation? Find an earthcache while you bike around the eight mile loop.
- Bellaire: Just a short distance from your stay at Torch Lake, you can search for treasures on the Grass River Natural Area Trail. Stop for refreshments at Short’s Brewery.
- Vanderbilt: The Shingle Mill Pathway contains a series of caches along the trail you can find while you enjoy the serenity of Pigeon River.
