5 natural ways to help relieve your child’s allergies
| 2 min read
Most of us have been there ourselves: dealing with the sneezing, coughing and itchy eyes that come with seasonal allergies. But did you know that really young kids can also get sidelined by high pollen counts?
Some kids as young as three can develop seasonal allergies. The symptoms are similar to adults: congestion, itchy nose, scratchy throat and watery eyes. But the most important thing to realize is how all of that sneezing and eye-itching can affect your child’s overall well-being. Children with allergies are more likely to lose sleep, miss school, have more sinus infections and develop chronic ear infections and asthma due to constant congestion.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here’s a list of natural ways to decrease your child’s seasonal allergies triggers, easing their discomfort so they can enjoy the summer sniffle-free:
- Avoid letting your child play outside in the early morning, when pollen counts are at their highest.
- Use the air conditioner, which has a filter, instead of keeping your child’s bedroom windows open at night.
- Keep pets out of your child’s room and wash their hands after they play with a pup. Even if your kid isn’t allergic to dogs, Fido could have still been rolling around in the grass, which can transfer pollen to your child.
- Add dust mite covers to your child’s bedding.
- After playing outside, have your child take a shower and change into a fresh set of clothes.
