4 Strange Ways to Perk Up Your Coffee

What’s the latest trend in the coffee world? Weird but healthy ingredients. Health gurus are taking matters into their own hands, or mugs in this case, and are opting for spices, unique milks and even butter in their daily cup of joe.
The trick is that these specialty additives are specific, unique and precisely measured. Here are a few of the weirdest coffee additions we’ve seen, and how much to add to your cup if you dare:
  1. Cinnamon: cinnamon is a great way to add flavor to your coffee without dumping in empty calories or heavily altering the drink’s natural taste. The spice is also great for you. It helps strengthen the immune system, boost brain function and lowers blood sugar levels, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels.
  1. Cashew, coconut or almond milk: ditch the cream and sugar for a healthy substitute. Different blends of milk bring different flavors to your coffee along with different health benefits. Many coconut milks don’t even contain lactose or hydrogenated oils.
  1. Grass fed butter: that’s right, butter. When compounded with high end coffee and a special “brain octane oil“, butter is said to create a creamy, rich cup of coffee that decreases the time it takes for your body to metabolize the coffee’s caffeine. Put simply, more energy with a lower crash rate. Just be warned, as mentioned, this concoction works as directed. Putting a lump of grocery store butter into your average coffee will probably not produce the same effects. Blending butter with these additives will give your coffee a great boost but butter should be used sparingly, and in proportion with other good coffee additives.
  1. Eggs: via whole raw eggs or raw egg yolks, eggs emulsify a warm cup of coffee, particularly when blended with uncommon additions like honey, salt, cinnamon, cocoa, turmeric, or cayenne. Most people prefer it well blended, but feel free to experiment. Egg whites in coffee are actually easier for the body to digest too.
If you’re looking for a healthy cup, though, your best bet is to take it black. No other form of coffee is as raw, natural or encompassing of as many health benefits.
