You might not think of the State Capitol lawn as a great place to bring your kids to play, but an event on Wednesday will be solely devoted to just that.
Over 1,500 kids from across the state will descend on Lansing for the fourth annual Come Out and Play: A Day at the Capitol, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Canoe and kayak simulations, disc golf and other activities are planned as a way to celebrate the fact that July is Parks and Recreation Month. Fishing activities, tent skills and camping demonstrations will also expose kids to activities they can enjoy at Michigan state parks.
The Michigan Recreation & Park Association (MRPA) will host the event along with the Michigan No Child Left Inside Coalition. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is a sponsor.
The MRPA is celebrating its 80th anniversary and a special public announcement about Come Out & Play is scheduled for noon.
