Did you know that a 160-pound person can burn up to 211 calories during 60 minutes of housework? Knocking out some chores around the house is an effective and satisfying way to sneak in some exercise.
Chores for Every Season
In the winter months, my favorite household chore is stacking firewood. My dad kindly introduced this chore to me when I was a little girl, and when I noticed the muscle tone in my arms, I realized I actually liked it. Lifting weights may give the same workout, but I enjoy physical activity more when I know I’m also accomplishing something, so stacking wood it is.
Shoveling snow comes in a close second during the winter. In the summer, you’ll find me mowing the yard with a manual-mower and when fall hits, I’m raking leaves on a daily basis.
Favorite Chore?
Is it an oxymoron to say I have favorite chores? What are some of your favorite physical activities that also double as housework? Please share some of your favorite ways to incorporate physical activity into your day so you can burn calories and still get things done.
