Fall is a wonderful time of year, filled with crisp air, beautiful foliage and plenty of festivals across the state of Michigan. Here are five fall festivals perfect for the whole family to enjoy: 

Michigan Renaissance Festival

When: Weekends and Labor Day from Aug. 16 to Sept. 28
Where: 2600 Dixie Hwy., Holly
Details: The Michigan Renaissance Festival is a trip back to Medieval times. Try culinary creations, jousting, falconry exhibitions, a birds of prey show along with vendors, daily entertainments and themed weekends. Feel free to dress up in Medieval garb or go as you are. Tickets are $27.95 for adults and $18.95 for children.

Michigan State Fair

When: Aug. 28 to Sept. 1
Where: 4600 Grand River Ave., Novi
Details: The Michigan State Fair is a great way to kick-off your fall. A $10 ticket grants you general fair admission. The $42 ultimate admission includes fair admission, unlimited carnival rides and circus performances. The fair also has a farmers' market, agriculture showcases, livestock, a 5K, food and live entertainment.

Posen Potato Festival

When: Sept. 5 to 7
Where: 10575 Michigan Ave., Posen
Details: Located west of Alpena, the tiny village of Posen celebrates Polish heritage during this fun festival. The festival features a parade, polka bands, arts and crafts, spud run, flea market vendors and Polish cuisine.

Apple Festival in Charlevoix 

When: Oct 10 to 12
Where: 109 Mason St., Charlevoix
Details: This annual celebration in downtown Charlevoix gives you the chance to enjoy freshly harvested apples and locally grown and made fruits, vegetables and foods. The festival includes a farmer’s market, food booths, an arts and crafts show and more.

Detroit Harvest Fest

When: Oct. 25 and 26
Where: Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park, Detroit,
Details: Featuring food trucks, live music and fun activities for the kids including free inflatables, trick-or-treating, pumpkins and more. This year, the festival will mark the grand opening of Centennial Park.
