Baxter Community Center and Ele’s Place will be the recipients of proceeds raised at this year’s Kent County Medical Society Alliance (KCMSA) Charity Ball for Children.
This is the 25th year for the event, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Cheney Place in downtown Grand Rapids. A social hour begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7:30 p.m. Dessert, dancing, and live and silent auctions will follow. The event is black tie optional and the cost for tickets is $200 per person. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is a sponsor of the Charity Ball.
KCMSA is a service organization made up of physicians and their spouses that focuses on health-related needs in the community with an emphasis on issues affecting women and children. Over the past 24 years, the annual charity ball has raised over $1.2 million supporting multiple charities in the greater Kent County area.
This year’s charity ball beneficiaries support children who have suffered a loss and kids who need a safe place to play.
Ele’s Place is a healing center for grieving children and teens. Peer support group programs help children ages 3-18 learn how to cope and begin to heal after the death of a parent, sibling, or other close family member or friend. The Grand Rapids location opened in June 2013 and money raised at the charity ball will allow the Grand Rapids center to increase educational outreach and expand programming to support more grieving children.
Baxter Community Center provides many services for families living in southeast Grand Rapids. Funds raised at the charity ball are earmarked for use in replacing an outdated play area for 70 children enrolled in Baxter’s Child Development Center. The new playground equipment will meet the accreditation requirements of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
