What Does Being Healthy Mean to You?
| 2 min read
Today is World Health Day, which happens every year on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the World Health Organization. The goal of the day is to raise awareness for worldwide public health issues, like food safety (this year’s theme). Health is central to happiness and well-being, but defining exactly what health means to you can be a very individual and complex thing. While one person might consider being healthy to mean free from disease, another can define it as being able to wake up and run five miles or eating an apple every day. With that in mind, A Healthier Michigan asked our followers on Facebook and Twitter, “What does health mean to you?” And here’s what they said:
To me, being healthy means….
- Just move it! However you can, seek out a new adventure to a healthier lifestyle. Do it one step at a time and then encourage others to follow. For physical, mental and social well-being, you have to move it! – Janice Sutherland
- Long, forward motion – Debbie Woodworth
- The ability to get down on the floor to play with my granddaughters – Judi Suykerbuyk
- Pain-free and active – Patricia Klag Haines
- Moderation and balance – Misty Betancourt
- Funding for the “Third Life,” which is what the French call retirement – Enni-Carl Gregas
- Peace – Amy Loper Pethers
- Free of disease; free to live life to the fullest – Jeanne Thorburn
- A chance to change my life, to change even just one or two things for a healthier, fuller life – Alice Dombrowski
- More time to achieve my goals in life – Greg Cruthis
- A strong body, an active mind and a spirit at peace – Jennifer Holcomb
- Being physically, mentally and spiritually whole – Nancy Bresette
