Healthy Homemade Popsicle Recipes with Fresh Fruit

Summertime has begun here in Michigan, and everyone is looking for ways to beat the heat.
The freezer aisle of your favorite grocery stores is filled with different flavored popsicles sure to make you cool off a bit. However, in those freezers full of popsicles there are a lot of added sugars, colors, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives. Though most boxes are marked with a stamp that says, “made with real fruit,” these are not the healthiest options for you.
Here at Blue Cross, we are embracing the Michigan seasonal fruits and seeking healthy ways to get creative and make popsicles at home. There are many flavor combinations to choose from. Using berries like strawberries or blueberries makes a fun pink or purple popsicle accompanied by a fresh taste. There is also the combination of watermelon and mint, a refreshing treat with the kick of mint that you can grow in your backyard with an herb planter.
Another homemade option is a fresh fruit popsicle with Greek yogurt so you can get the nutrients from the yogurt while enjoying a tasty treat. In our recipe, we are using blueberries because blueberry season is coming, but feel free to use whatever fruit you love.
