The old yellow caboose car on the Leelanau Trail is one highlight of the Tour de TART, happening this Friday.
Do Michigan summers get any better than this? If you’re going to be close to Traverse City this weekend, take advantage of Friday’s gorgeous evening forecast and hit the TART and Leelanau trails for the 14th annual Tour de TART.
More than 600 people are expected to complete the 17-mile bike ride, sponsored by Blue Care Network of Michigan, which begins in downtown Traverse City and ends at Marina Park in the Village of Suttons Bay. The ride includes stops for food, dinner, and a bus ride back to Traverse City. Local beer and wine offerings from Short’s Brewing Company and Black Star Farms Winery will be available for purchase at the end of the ride.
The ride typically takes about two hours and riders will enjoy beautiful scenery, including lakefront views, vineyards, orchards, and farms. The iconic old yellow caboose car on the Leelanau Trail will be open for people to stop and take a look at, said Hattie Christie, Interim Marketing and Outreach Director for Traverse Trails.
“That will be exciting to have open,” Christie said.
The event is the year’s biggest fundraiser for the trails, Christie explained, and she said the ride makes for a truly enjoyable evening.
“It’s all off road and it goes by beautiful scenery,” she said.
Christie said with increased usage of the trails, completing the Tour de TART fundraiser is a great way to check out the trails and ensure their future. Registration begins at 4 p.m. this Friday, but the event typically sells out before then, so register for this unique ride today.
