Memorial Day is more than barbecue, fireworks and parties. It’s an acknowledgement of all the fallen soldiers who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces. The last Monday in May is part of an extended weekend full of activities for people of all ages. Each year, local organizers present lavish parades celebrating the community and military personnel.
Here’s our guide to finding a Memorial Day parade near you:
Celebrating its 98th year, the annual City of Dearborn Memorial Day Parade will take place on May 27, 2024, along Michigan Ave in West Dearborn, hosted by the City of Dearborn. This year’s parade will pay special tribute to Purple Heart recipients in partnership with the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council. The parade will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. with a military funeral procession. The Grand Marshal and parade groups will follow. A Remembrance Ceremony will occur at noon on the lawn of the Dearborn Historical Museum, 915 Brady St.
The Ferndale Memorial Day Parade is the oldest continuous Memorial Day celebration in the state of Michigan. The next parade will take place on Monday, May 27th, 2024. The parade begins at 10:00am near the corner of Livernois Street and West Maplehurst Street.
The Memorial Day Parade is May 27 in downtown Royal Oak. The parade steps off at 9:00 am on S Main St at Lincoln.
Ann Arbor's only Memorial Day parade is back! Come out for the parade, food trucks, and a ceremony to honor fallen servicewomen and men. Kids come join the parade and decorate your bikes, wagons, strollers, etc. Prizes for kids will be awarded for most patriotic decor!
Portland VFW Post 4090, the American Legion, and Auxiliary will again host services in Portland honoring U.S. Service People. 10:00 am begins the march from Veterans Memorial Bridge, up Bridge Street with stops and recognition at Lehman Funeral Homes and the Portland Cemetery.
The parade starts at 9:00 am, Monday, May 27th.The procession begins at the corner of 8thStreet and Central Avenue and continues on to Pilgrim Home Cemetery on 16h Street, where a brief ceremony will take place.
Starting at 10:00 am at Brighton High School, the parade will move east down Main Street to ultimately conclude at the Mill Pond. Once the parade ends, gather at The Amp for a special ceremony to pay tribute to our area’s veterans. A variety of speakers will be presenting to honor these Veterans in a very special way.
