Think an afternoon or evening of bowling sounds fun? Upcoming events across Michigan will make every strike, and spare, count toward a good cause.
The annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ (BBBS) signature fundraiser. Every year half a million people across the country pack local lanes to raise money for the organization, which matches caring adults with at-risk children to provide stable and consistent mentors and role models.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network, and UAW/Joint Programs work together to have a strong team presence at many events across Michigan. Recent events were held in Kalamazoo, Flint, Grand Rapids, and Howell.
Grand Rapids employees recently packed the Eastbrook Lanes on March 6 and 7, raising $3,555 toward the local BBBS chapter.
“It’s important for us to support local organizations making a difference in the lives of children. The work that Big Brothers Big Sisters does in our communities helps change the course of kids’ futures, providing them with a positive adult presence and exposing them to opportunities they may not have access to otherwise,” said eMily Alemán-McAlpine, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan senior community liaison, Community Responsibility.
Last year, almost $70,000 was raised by teams across the company at bowling events. Other upcoming Bowl for Kids’ Sake events in Michigan that BCBSM, BCN and UAW/Joint Programs are participating in include:
- April 18 at Colonial Lanes in Ann Arbor
- April 24 at Superior Lanes in Marquette
- April 25 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park
- May 12, 13 and 14 at Incredible Mo’s in Grawn
- October 2 at Royal Scot Golf and Bowl in Lansing
“Getting together outside of work helps to build stronger team bonds,” said Jessica Iloff, Blue Care Network community outreach project manager. “The fact that we’re able to support a positive community organization and have fun at the same time makes these events a win-win all the way around.”
