Processed snacks, burgers and hotdogs are alright on occasion, but over time the body can start to get a little heavy, sluggish and overly acidic. Fresh juicing is a wonderful way to flood the body with nutrients and allow the body to shift back into its optimal healing state. A little juice can go a long way. Consider skipping the poolside cocktail and enjoy a fresh juice. I like to drink mine in a wine glass!
Here are some simple juice recipes to help the body shift into an alkaline state:
Apple, Cucumber, Parsley Cleansing Juice
Ingredients
1 large or 2 small cucumbers, sliced lengthwise
½ apple, sliced
2 tablespoons loosely chopped parsley
Cucumber is especially useful in cleansing sugar from the body and helps to dissolve kidney stones. Parsley is highly alkaline, a great blood cleanser and especially beneficial for kidneys and liver. Apples are cleansing for the liver, and apple pectin absorbs intestinal toxins and aids in elimination.
Beet & Carrot Juice
Ingredients
3 beets
2 carrots
Beets work as an intestinal, liver and digestive tract cleanser. Carrot can improve the function of the kidneys, liver and digestive system. This means less bloating and sluggishness.
Papaya Smoothie
Ingredients
¼ ripe avocado
1 ½ cups ripe papaya chunks
1 cup coconut or almond milk
1 tablespoon cinnamon
A dash of maple syrup for added sweetness (optional)
For those of you that do not have a juicer, smoothies are a wonderful alternative. Smoothies have more “staying power” as in they keep you fuller longer than juices so a killer smoothie can make a meal. Papaya is incredibly healing for the digestive tract. It is often used to help relieve constipation. The healthy fats in this smoothie are sustaining and allow the body to absorb nutrients optimally.
Here’s to enjoying ALL the pleasures that summertime brings us!
