Saying that it’s cold outside is an understatement. With the below zero temperatures keeping us cooped up indoors we’re bound to get a little stir crazy. If you find that the weather and road conditions are keeping you from getting to the gym why not try exercising in the comfort (and warmth) of your own home?
There are many indoor exercises you can do without any additional equipment. Below are six body weight exercises designed to train your whole body!
Click on the exercise to watch a video explaining the exercise. Be sure to watch the the entire video before attempting these exercises. The videos provide modifications and progressions. Warm up for about 5-10 minutes before beginning these exercises. If balance is an issue, it may be a good idea to have something sturdy nearby to hold for support.
You can get some cardio in at home too! Try some of these cardio exercises in between sets to keep your heart rate elevated and burn extra calories.
- Jogging in place
- Jumping rope (with our without jump rope)
- Burpees (advanced)
If you’re new to exercise, start slow. Check your intensity by measuring your heart rate or using the talk test. When exercising, never check your heart rate by pressing your finger against your carotid artery in your neck. Always check your pulse at your wrist. By pressing on your neck you can restrict the circulation of oxygenated blood to your brain and get lightheaded or pass out.
*Always consult your physician before beginning an exercise program. If you feel chest pain or pain in your joints or muscles with any of these exercises stop immediately. If pain persists make an appointment with your physician.*
