6 Great Water Sports to Try This Summer
| 2 min read
Every summer people flock to the Great Lakes to enjoy Michigan’s scenic beaches and to get some sun. Rather than just laying out this summer, or only getting in the water to take a dip, why not try out some of these exciting water sports? They’ll get your heart going, give you some exercise, and most importantly, be a lot of fun!
Water Polo. Perfect for when you’re with a group of friends, or with family, all it requires is a ball, a little competitiveness and strong swimming skills if you’re playing in deep water.
Canoeing or Kayaking. You can fit one or two people into this activity and it’s great for taking the scenic route along some of Michigan’s lakes and rivers.
Skimboarding. This sport — which uses a flat board to skim across wet sand and surf onto incoming, crashing waves — is already pretty popular with kids because it’s easy to master and very invigorating! Check out some beginner tips here.
Waterskiing. A more common water sport, but have you actually tried it? It might take you a few tries to get up on the skis, but once you do, you’ll have a blast, and it delivers a serious upper- and lower-body workout.
Wakeboarding. Although similar in name to skimboarding, it’s very different. Strap a board to your feet and take off behind a boat; this one will definitely test your balance!
White Water Rafting. Thrill seekers this one’s for you! A fast-paced, exciting, and tumultuous ride is in store when you try out this water sport! There are plenty of places to try in Michigan.
Whether you’re an amateur, or a seasoned pro, go ahead and enjoy some of these water sports this summer, you won’t regret it!
