#MIKidsCan Champion of the Month: Xavier Bean

Xavier Bean is not your average 8-year-old.
On the last day of the school year, Xavier told his mom he didn’t want to sit in the house and play video games all summer. Instead, he wanted to spend more time having fun outside.
Xavier and his mom came up with the idea to do daily family bike rides. He loved it so much, he made fliers to get people in his neighborhood to join.
As talked to his neighbors, he realized many kids in the area didn’t have bikes. Xavier decided to fix two of his old bikes to give to other kids.
Xavier is in the final stages of fixing the bikes. He’s giving one to his friend who lives next door, and hasn’t decided who will receive the other.
When asked what he loves about biking, Xavier replied, “being outside and going fast.” His advice to new bikers is to be careful, and watch out for cars.
Xavier was selected as the #MIKidsCan Champion of the Month in recognition of his commitment to a healthy lifestyle, and motivating others to do the same.
As our August #MIKidsCan Champion of the Month, Xavier received the opportunity to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the Detroit Lions. He tackled a 60-minute on-field workout with Lions’ trainers and mascot, Roary, and met players Matthew Stafford and Golden Tate. He also got to stand in the “fan tunnel,” where Lions players rushed onto the field prior to taking on the Cincinnati Bengals. His favorite part of the day was catching a football in the end zone.
