Leave your orange and blue at home for tomorrow’s Detroit Tigers game! The Tigers and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute have teamed up for the Second Annual Pink Out the Park to support breast cancer awareness and prevention. Whether you’ll be sitting in Comerica Park or watching the game at your favorite bar, fans are encouraged to rock pink to celebrate and honor those touched by breast cancer.
In 2013, roughly 232,340 women and 2,240 men received a call that they have breast cancer. The U.S. has one of the highest incidence rates worldwide, yet 90 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer are still alive five years after their diagnosis. High survival rates are credited to increased awareness of cancer symptoms, education how to minimize risk factors, and progress in earlier detection and improved treatment[1].
Stop by one of the breast health kiosks at tomorrow’s game to make sure you’re aware of symptoms and how you can protect yourself. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s coming quickly. So if you skipped your last mammogram, make sure to get in for that screening!
