Hard to believe how fast the Fifth Third River Bank Run is approaching us, but the kick off is merely days away. Though the race itself takes place in May, there are a number of opportunities, beginning the this week, to get your training schedule started.
The 10,000 Steps Challenge is meant to help participants achieve a goal of walking 10,000 steps a day. In fact, 10,000 steps equal five miles! Enrollment in the challenge includes: a pedometer, access to online tracking tools, giveaways and prizes, a training newsletter with tips and further information, and a $3 coupon to register for the Fifth Third River Bank Run 5K Walk on May 10, 2014.
To assist in reaching your goals for the 10,000 Steps Challenge, Blue Care Network is providing monthly indoor community walks at the Downtown Grand Rapids YMCA. The first 40 people at each community walk will receive a 10,000 Steps Challenge t-shirt. In addition, on each Saturday every attendee at the community walks will be entered to win a FitBit Flex, participate in clinics and events, and sample healthy snacks. Each walk will begin with training clinics at 7:15 a.m. on the following Saturdays:
- January 4th
- February 1st
- March 1st
- April 5th
- May 3rd
The Fifth Third River Bank Run will also kick off in January with a special event located at Craig’s Cruisers in Grand Rapids. The event will give attendees the opportunity to learn more information and pick up fun swag. The kick off is Jan. 9, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Following the Fifth Third River Bank Run kick off is the 2014 Living Well Expo, taking place that weekend: Jan. 10 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at DeVos Place Convocation Center. Blue Care Network will be on site to offer BMI screenings, information on the 10,000 Steps Challenge, Fifth Third River Bank Run registration, and more. The first 50 people to sign up for the Fifth Third River Bank Run at the Living Well Expo will also receive a 10,000 Steps Challenge t-shirt.
The Fifth Third River Bank Run itself takes place on May 10, 2014 downtown Grand Rapids. As the largest 25K road race in the country, the event offers a variety of options suitable to all fitness levels and participants. The event includes the 25K, 10K, 5K Run, 5K Walk, 25K hand cycle and wheelchair race, team competitions, and junior events. Visit the Living Well Expo in January to register for the race!
